    Rachael Dinnis

    Design director

Rachael wasn’t born in a cowshed, but she does know one end of a cow from another. Which is very important when you come from a family of dairy farmers.

Fresh out of design college, it wasn’t long until Rachael started to feel the pull of London’s creative world.

21 design accolades later, she started up her own consultancy. In 2002, Dinnis’ first client was Yellow Pages, which gave Boots, Mittal Steel and Siemens the faith that a small agency could work on big projects.

If you’re feeling a bit more nosy about her background, then you can track her down on LinkedIn.

    What dampens your spirits?

Call centres! I can feel the life force drain out of me the second I have to wait for someone to answer. It’s SO rude.

    What lights your fire?

Trying to find the space station in the night sky with my son. Stumbling on a fantastic book that inspires me. Oh, and did I mention my growing addiction to Candy Crush

    Nikki Myles

    Employee engagement specialist

Nikki is a Lancashire lass with over 20 years’ experience working for major global organisations in the Telecoms and IT sectors. She’s spent most of her working life in the city developing an in-depth understanding of Sales, Marketing and life in the corporate world.

In 2004 Nikki went back to her roots and formed Myles Associates up in them there hills. Always up for a challenge, she uses her creativity and insight to help organisations like BT, Vodafone, Sheffield Hallam University and Yorkshire Forward bring strategies to life for their organisation, its people and their customers. All while enjoying fantastic views and good coffee.

    What dampens your spirits?

Bad grammar, sloppy sales people and the M6.

    What lights your fire?

Technology. If there is an App for it – I’ve probably got it. I love enthusiastic people, daily walks with the boys (3 Labradors) and a good book. Oh and the kids of course.

    Writing

    Heather Atchison

    Writing

Heather realised that good words could get her somewhere at the age of eight, when she won a paragraph-writing completion (prize $10). A fair few years and continents later she found herself setting up a team in a London communications agency to bring tone of voice to businesses. Back when no one knew what it was.

For over a decade now she’s worked on brand language and written communications with top brands – the likes of Virgin, Vodafone, eBay, Coca Cola, London Underground, the BBC and Legal & General. She makes sure our work on tone of voice is never anything less than top notch.

She lives in Brighton, but we try not to hold that against her.

    What dampens your spirits?

Seeing people mistreating children or animals. Or other people, for that matter.

    What lights your fire?

Having fresh air in my lungs and sunshine on my face. Birdsong. Watching dogs play.

    Ace

Studio manager and general dog’s body

Although he hasn’t been with Dinnis long, it’s safe to say Ace has made a big impression. He cleans up after everyone and is known for his friendly kisses, the doggy equivalent of a hug. But his tea making skills are pants!

    What dampens your spirits?

That my bowl isn’t always magically full of food.

    What lights your fire?

Running full pelt down the hill with the wind whipping my ears.

  • Dinnis-Design-team-Paul-Reeves-colour

    Paul Reeves

    Design director

    Paul Reeves

    Design director

Paul’s design career all kicked off in the summer of love, when flowing hair and a beard were de rigeur for the aspiring junior designer. He worked on a clutch of award-winning projects and – more importantly – met Rachael, when he interviewed her as a junior designer.

By 2003, with more experience and less hair, Paul was ready to join Rachael as design director at Dinnis Design. He classes his approach as ‘thoughtful’ – which isn’t how you’d describe the neurotic Manx cat he once spent a whole day trying to photograph for an annual report.

    What dampens your spirits?

Rain, rain and more rain on weekends.

    What lights your fire?

Mmmm…screen printing, I love the feel and smell of ink on paper.

  • Dinnis-Design-team-Jackie-Hobson-bw

    Jacky Hobson

    Marketing

    Jacky Hobson

    Marketing

Having a career that spans more years than she’d care to admit (or can even remember) Jacky has worked both client-side and agency-side. With a pragmatic and hands-on approach to marketing, a love of words and a passion for print she now finds herself living in God’s own county of Yorkshire.

A self-confessed “grammar fiend”, she supports clients in their social media, blogging and content creation efforts helping them to generate new business and improve both customer and employee engagement.

    What dampens your spirits?

Inertia, sloppiness and poor customer service all conspire to make my blood boil!

    What lights your fire?

Sunshine, travel, live music and, most recently, the beautiful Yorkshire countryside

    Ben Afia

    Tone of voice

    Ben Afia

    Tone of voice

In the early Noughties, Ben set up the first brand tone of voice at Boots.  This was just as it was emerging as a discipline. Then disaster struck, he was made redundant. And he’d just moved house and baby no 1 had arrived. So he set up afia, with the plan to be a freelance writer specialising in tone of voice.

It turned out to be a pretty good move – over the last decade he’s helped clients like Aviva, Vodafone, L&G and TalkTalk sound more human.

    What dampens your spirits?

As a writer and trainer I’m always pushing people to find fresh ways to say things. Drive. Deliver. Dead wood. If you’ve heard it somewhere before, find another way to say it, or no-one will hear you.

    What lights your fire?

Pete Tong.  He introduced me to dance music back in the early 90s, starting a life-long love affair. Swimming and gardening (but not at the same time).
